 Diwali Mela event “Sutradhar – The Story of Jute” organized at RR Bawa DAV College for Girls, Batala

Under the patronage of Dr. Ekta Khosla, Principal, RR Bawa DAV College for Girls, Batala and under the able guidance of Mrs. Harpreet Aneja (PG Head Department of Fashion Designing), a vibrant Diwali Mela event entitled “Sutradhar – The Story of Jute” was organized in the college campus to promote creativity, sustainability and entrepreneurial skills among the students.

The event beautifully showcased the versatility of jute, often called the “Golden Fibre,” through an array of eco-friendly and handmade products. Students displayed and sold a variety of jute-based items including bags, dress material, wall hangings, decorative mirrors, accessories, gift boxes, clothing, cosmetic and festive decorative items along with bakery stall highlighting the colourful festivities of Diwali.

Principal Dr. Ekta Khosla inaugurated the exhibition and appreciated the students’ innovative efforts in reviving traditional crafts with a modern touch. She emphasized the importance of adopting sustainable materials in everyday life to reduce environmental impact. Through “Sutradhar – The Story of Jute,” the Department aimed to sensitize students towards the use of natural fibres to promote the idea of eco-conscious celebration. The program successfully combined the spirit of Diwali with the message of environmental responsibility and sustainable living.

The event attracted enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members alike. The stalls were beautifully decorated, reflecting the festive spirit of Diwali. The visitors lauded the creativity, presentation and aesthetic appeal of the exhibits. At this juncture, the faculty, staff and students also enjoyed the festive spirit of vibrant Diwali celebrations.
